Four People Arrested For Tempering With ECG Meters

Four individuals, three from Ghana and one from China, have been arrested by the police for tampering with and installing Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) meters.

Wisdom Sewlorm, an agent, received the meters for installation. However, his employee, Ernest Afatsawu, tampered with the meters and sold them to a Chinese plastic manufacturing firm for GH₵1200.

The manager of the Chinese firm, Rulian Shan, and his sales manager, Ali Yakubu, were arrested on Friday, August 2.

Ernest and Wisdom are currently under investigation.

Paul Abariga, the Director of Investigation, Prosecution, and Security, stated that the four individuals will appear in court on Wednesday and that the contract with the ECG contractor will be terminated.

"There are meters being installed in various parts of our operational area, and reports indicated that some of these meters had been tampered with prior to installation. Our investigations confirmed these reports.

"Consequently, we arrested these four individuals. A meter meant for residential use was found in a factory manufacturing plastic bowls at Oblogo near Weija. We plan to conclude our investigation and present them in court tomorrow," he stated.
