Curfew in Bawku Municipality Renewed by the Minister for the Interior

The Ministry of Interior has announced the renewal of curfew hours for Bawku Municipality and its surrounding areas in the Upper East Region. This decision, effective from Tuesday, August 13, 2024, is part of ongoing efforts to maintain peace and order in the region. The curfew, which restricts movement from 10:00 pm to 4:00 am, was instituted by an Executive Instrument under the authority of the Minister for the Interior, Hon. Henry Quartey (MP).

The government has urged local leaders, including chiefs, elders, and opinion leaders, as well as the youth and other residents, to exercise restraint amidst the current challenges facing the area. The call for calm is crucial to ensuring that peace is maintained in the region, and citizens are encouraged to resolve conflicts through non-violent means.

In addition to the curfew, a total ban has been imposed on carrying arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons within the affected communities. The Ministry has made it clear that anyone found in possession of such items will be arrested and prosecuted.

The situation in Bawku has been tense in recent times, with various security measures being put in place to curb violence and maintain stability. The curfew is one of the steps taken by the government to manage the situation and prevent further escalation.

The Minister for the Interior has by Executive Instrument renewed the curfew hours imposed on Bawku Municipality and its environs in the Upper East Region from 10:00 pm to 4:00 am effective Tuesday, August 13, 2024.

Government calls on Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, Youth, and people of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them as well as to use non-violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace.

Meanwhile, there is a total ban on all persons in the aforementioned communities and their environs from carrying arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapon and any persons found with any arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted.
